26 in brush gun
Have a chance to acquire a Sterlingworth with 26in barrels from a friend. Serial # 1600xx . Guess about 1938-39 gun. The gun appears to be in ex condition. Bright barrels, lever to the right. The stock and fore end in excellent shape. How rare are the 26 inch barrels? Does $500. sounds like a good price?

Re: 26 in brush gun
Wildwood,
I'm surprised no one has commented on your post so I thought I would.
If everything with the gun is correct, at $500.00, it's a bargain.
If the gun originally had 28, 30 or 32 inch barrels and has been cut to 26", that would devalue the gun considerably. However, many of those 12 gauge Utica Sterlingworths in the 160XXX range have factory original 26 inch barrels and are called the Brush model. Have you used a bore gauge to see if there's choke in both barrels? They likely would be choked IC in the right barrel and Modified in the left barrel if the gun is a genuine Brush model. Are keels evident at the muzzle end of the barrels.
Is the stock the correct length with no cracks or splits? And dents or pitting in the bores? Do the hammers work OK, SAFE work OK?
If all this is OK, buy the gun. And if you do, please post some pictures for us to see how you did.
Hope this helps.
Jolly
