You and Bella are very good or very lucky. I haven't flushed a grouse in Butler, Lawrence or Crawford Counties in 3 years and I spend a bunch of time afield. Sure do miss the drumming in the spring.
Recoil is most noticed when I miss

Nice Dave, thanks for taking time to post. Sounds like your team is doing well. Hey if you got that CE 16 straight gripper we both handled 2 months ago, maybe it would be too light/whippy as compared to your CE 12 and you could flip it to me.

I continue to think that report/video by the PGC biologist on the WNV and mosquito effects on grouse chicks doesn't necessarily relate to grouse in the wild here in PA. I do agree grouse numbers are down over the past few years but personally attribute that to other factors, mainly predators of chicks and adults.

Frank, I should have it this week, or next. I am very concerned about the weight. I don't shoot light guns well. The 16 comes in at 5 1/2 lbs., but I have to try it.

fullchoke, I do have some luck, but it's basically just a lot time spent locating the grouse before the season starts. It is a year round activity for Bella and me. We spend countless hours Mt. biking, walking, cross country skiing, deer hunting ect. When grouse season starts we know were the birds are. We don't spend an hour of grouse season in dead cover. It's worth it. So far this season we've logged 34 hours of loaded gun time with 89 grouse flushes.
