nickle plated shot

nickle plated shot

Gents,

I have a fine 1909 vintage 12 gauge A grade. The barrels are pristine, the bluing about98%. Its full and modified choked. My question is: Will the nickel plated, number 5 1/2 shot I like to load for pheasants cause harm to the bores? In other words does the plating render the shot too hard so as to cause scoring of bores? Thanks for your wisdom.

I agree with Craig. The nickel plating only adds a minute bit of overall hardness to the shot, if it's true plating and not just a nickel wash. It's just enough to help patterns ofttimes, but won't harm the bores of your gun.

Never heard of 5.5 size shot. Imported I'm guessing.

I got the shot from Ballistic Products in Minnesota. It seemed to work well in handloads in Nebraska last year. It may be European. I had never heard of that shot size before last year either. It was deadly on the long tails. Thanks for the good advice gentlemen.
