SENDING MY GUN COLLECTION TO AUCTION

Post by George Lander »

For several reasons I am seriously considering sending my gun & edged weapon collection to auction. My collection consists of @ 100 long guns (mainly SxS sporting guns), @ 25 pistols & 20 or so edged weapons. I would really appreciate from the members here and input as to the best auction house to deal with, what should be the appropriate sales percentage and who best there to deal with? Any thoughts here would be greatly appreciated.

Best Regards, George

I would contact someone at James Julia auctions, great reputation with one of the largest audiences. Go over your collection with Julia or they may even come to you for assessment. Selling fees are adjusted lower as the gun value goes up, even to a "no fee" point for high end guns.

Thanks Foxie, good advice. I met with Josh Lowenstiner yesterday to look over my collection. I think that I am going to at least send part of my collection to Julias. I have over 100 long guns (mainly SxS doubles) American, English & German. 25 or so handguns and 20 or so edged weapons.

My reasons for selling now are threefold: 1. I am 78 years young 2. No one in my family cares about SxS doubles & 3. and MOST IMPORTANTLY my only daughter, Lisha, is suffering from stage 5 brain cancer. She has had two operations at Duke Medical and will, most certainly, have to have at least one more. Right now she is doing fairly good, although she has lost some memory and speech. She loves to travel and while she can I want to be able to take her where she wants to go. One thing that she loved was diving with Mel Fisher's crew on the remains of the Atocha. If she is able we plan to do that again.

Best Regards and Many Thanks, George

George,
We are all getting older. We have never met but I am still sorry to hear about your daughter. At the end of the day it is all just stuff. Friends and family are what is important. Good decision. Best of luck with your sale. Blessings to your daughter.

George,
I just read your post and said a prayer for you daughter. I've been battling cancer since 2004. The most important thing you have is each other. God Bless.
