early A subguage
Am interested in how many early A 16's were made. Looked through McIntosh and couldn't find it or missed it. Have one with 30" barrels.........DEN

I think the book provides the total number of A grades in 16 gauge with a breakout of Philly versus Utica. I don't believe there is a breakout of how many were made with early style engraving versus the second generation engraving. FWIW, I own 300320 and it has the snap on forearm and the second generation engraving.

Re: early A subguage
According to my records, 300219 is an 1913-style B-Grade, and 300221 is a Gough-style A-Grade, but 300222 is an early-style A-Grade. Everything I've recorded from 300227 on up is Gough-style. From my observations there are possibly eighty or so more early-style 20-gauges, but I have some serious gaps in my observations. Makes me really regret not buying 300100 a straight-grip A-Grade two-barrel set when I examined it at a show at the Arthur Ashe Center in Richmond well over 30 years ago.

The Arthur Ashe shows were very nice. You can see the negative result of time by attending the Chantilly, VA shows, which are promoted by the daughter of Joan Davis, the promoter of the Arthur Ashe shows. Of course, you have to like black guns.

I had no. 300004 a C grade with 28" Chromox bbls and snap-on FE.
I have 300450 an AE grade with 28" Krupp bbls, straight grip, Deely latch and Gough style engraving.
