Kevin great pictures thanks I have measured over 20 12ga supers width across the breech balls, 2.404 to 2.424 most average around 2.415. I do not have any measurements on 20ga supers of which I have only handled 5. Craig

Thanks Craig - yes, the 12 ga. "Boomers" are BIG guns! But notice some subtleties - for instance, the relative dimensions of the HE 20 compared to the standard 0 frame 12, then look at the Bartholomew "lightweight' #1 frame by comparison to the HE 20, - the Bartholomew gun comes in at 8 lbs. 4 oz., while the standard HE 12 pictured is an even 9 pounds all. By contrast, the HE 20 weighs 7 lbs. 14 oz. - only 6 oz. less than Henry's #1 frame 12 gauge! The handling characteristics of both guns (HE 20 and #1 12 ga. are very similar in motions and balance - sweet! Kevin

I agree about the handling characteristics. I had my 12 ga. HE 3" x 32" in my hands less than an hour ago, and again marvel at the way such a big, heavy gun handles. (Mallards marvel, too. But are not as happy about it as me).

I handled a 20 Ga. HE about 8 years ago, the first for me, and was amazed at how well it balanced and swung for me. I could picture myself knocking doves out of low hanging clouds with it, and an ounce of hard 7 1/2s. I had read about them handling "like a pig on the end of a shovel" ...... what a crock!

I've always liked the handling of my 8 3/4 pound Super-Fox, but to me the nine pound Fox-Sterlingworth Wildfowl I owned for a couple of decades handled like a railroad tie. Just as a point of reference, I shot a Remington Model 3200 tube set that weighs about nine pounds six ounces for 11 years.

I don't believe we can generalize about the handling of all nine hundred plus Super-Fox doubles. Each gun needs to be judged on its own merits.
