The safety on my little 20 gauge Sterly stopped working the other day. When the safety is on and either trigger pulled, the safety slide forward to off safe and bang. To say it took me by surprise was an understatement. I almost never test the safety during the season. Do test it during the off season when cleaning the gun and putting it away. Appreciate any thoughts on what it might be.
PS. The gun is starting to get a tad off face even though the top lever is to the right, so I had already planned on giving it to Dan Rossiter probably next month to tighten it up. Sure he will fix this new issue also, but just curious as to what might have happened and why? Thanks
Broken Safety or something else?

Re: Broken Safety or something else?
The "safety" is just a piece that sits over the top of the trigger to keep it from moving up and tripping the sear
If the safety slide is moving forward. My guess is that it is not going all the way back when you think you have it engaged
Either it's lose or some debris is blocking it
The only way to know is to remove the stock
