Ramblings, old cars and old Foxes

Post by Silvers »

Just some ramblings this morning.... spring turkey opened today here in PA but the woods are usually filled with mock turkey calls for a week after the opener - so this guy is sitting here at the keyboard with his java looking out at the start of a sterling day.

I spent a pleasant day yesterday with my brothers at Spring Carlisle (PA) car show. As usual we saw many nice 409's, GTO's, Z28's, Roadrunners, etc.... and some other neat wheels including a '41 Lincoln Zephyr with the V12 flathead engine, '46 Cadillac made for the Kimberly papermaking family, Model A's and T's, coupes from the 30's, some old Packards, Hudsons, Willys, etc. Some of the latter would look good with the barrels of a Fox or two peeking over the back seat. How many of them brought a Fox, Parker, Lefever or Smith home from the railway station or hardware 80 or so years ago? Or came home with wet dogs and ducks on the back seat and floor?

Well, here today, gone tomorrow. I sold an Olds 442 for something like $1,200. back in the 70's. Today you can buy one like it or a comparable muscle car for $30-35k, or that Lincoln V12 for a mere $60k.

Spending a few thou on a nice graded Fox seems like a bargain. Silvers

Well here is the car you should be looking for. This picture was sent to me by Bill Ansley of the Ansley family geneological team, the Ansleys being our man Ansley Herman Fox's Mother's family.

I presume this is/was Tom Kidd's car, and also the same one I photographed at Harrah's in Reno in 1977. Unfortunately I didn't have my flash properly sychronized and my slides from Reno are all very dark.

Yep Dave, I was looking for one. I stopped by most of the parts
vendors and asked for air cooled Fox car literature or old hunting
stuff but none to be had. Best I could do along those lines was a
nice box of Peters 20 gauge paper shells, good shape, for 10
bucks. Better than gun show prices! Frank

About two years ago my car-nut buddy over in C d'A told me the rusted remains of a Fox touring car was up for auction somewhere.

I just returned from the National Decoy Show in St Charles ILL. I spent two days at the auction, a $100K plus lot is nothing any more! I thought the market would slow down due to the economy, forget it!!! Even though we bitch about the prices for vintage guns, they are "reasonable" compared to other sectors of the sporting collectibles market.
