12 ga Gun weight

Post by James Orr »

What would the average weight of a Fox graded gun with 26 inch long barrels and straight grip stock with Silvers pad be? I know this will vary but what would be the lightest anyone has weighed? Is 6lbs 8oz considered light?

Thank you,

The very lightest Ansley H. Fox 12-gauge doubles I've encountered are my 1906 vintage 26-inch barrel C-Grade that goes six pounds five ounces, and a second generation DE-Grade that was for sale at one of the Vintage Cups at Orvis Sandanona that was a couple of ounces lighter. Our Card of the Month for April 2016 was for a 1910 vintage 26-inch barrel A-Grade that the card says went five pounds fifteen ounces!!!

My gut feeling is that a lot more 26-inch barrel 12-gauges weigh more then 6 pounds 8 ounces then weigh less.

Thanks for the info. To me it feels light. But I don't have any other 26 inch barreled Fox guns. I cannot see the barrel weight stamps so assume they were struck off during finishing.

I have a Fox XE12 with 26" barrels. It weighs 6 lbs 11oz.

I can still see the "4" on the barrels.

Best,

Mike

I have tried to make out the weight stamp on the barrels. It is very faint, and you have to use a magnifying glass. But it does appear to be a 4. The card says 6lbs 8oz. I need to find an accurate scale.

Thank you for the info on your XE.

Correction: I can still see the "3" on the barrels.
