No Serial Number

Post by Tread399 »

I have a Fox 16 ga B model (Mass manf). Double triggers. Extractors. Beavertail.
I have looked at all metal surfaces, and no serial number. Marked on barrels, receiver,
and fore end with "I" in a circle, and "FX," but no serial number. No signs of filing of
serial number. Any ideas?

They didn't have serial numbers until the gun control act of 1968 required it. On the bottom of the receiver, just back of the forearm iron there should be a tiny circle or oval with a number and a letter in it. The letter is the year of manufacture. A=1949, B=1950 etc. "O" and "Q" were not used because of similarity to a zero.

If the gun has a Chicopee Falls, Mass. address it was made between 1947 and 1960. Savage then moved to the modern factory at Westfield, Mass.
