A Grade Letter
A Grade Letter
I received my letter from Mr. Callahan, this week which has left me a bit confused.
My 16 ga is 303414 Stamped A on reciever. From the serial numbers I looked up this was made around 1935 in Utica, NY
Mr. Callahan's letter states this is AE Grade made in Phily 1925. The barrel is stamped with 303414 with FOX proof, roll stamped Savage Arms Corp, Utica, NY, USA.
Has anyone else ran across something like this? Do I have a Frankenstine gun?

Re: A Grade Letter
I would write him a letter and have him double check. I would guess it is a mistake on his part.

tjeep,
Drop John a note explaining the confusion and I'm sure he will double check it forthwith for you. He is very conscientious and a very good guy... fact is, he is not getting old any faster than the rest of us BUT he is entitled to make a mistake like the rest of us. You'll get a good answer from him.

I recieved the Factory card from the Members fourm. It has confirmed that my straight stock 16 A is all original with the 26" barrels. I will send a copy of the card to Mr. Callahan, he might have been working on multible request and just got the info mixed up. I'm very please this is an all original straight stock.
Re: A Grade Letter
I received my letter back from Mr. Callahan, he confirmed he pulled the wrong ticket for my gun. He also confirmed my gun is all original with the Straight stock and 26" barrels. I'm sure as many similar requests he gets would be hard to keep things straight. It showed my gun was shipped to the H&D Folsom Gun Company in New York. Pleased to have a little more history on the old gun, I don't think it was carried much based on the condition. It will be carried behind a fine Setter as long as I'm able. I have started a little journal for my Foxes that will be passed along with the guns when that time comes.

Great news, tjeep! We all love pictures, here. Try to post a few or better yet, include with a few paragraphs on an upcoming hunting trip and Dave Noreen will have another interesting piece for our newsletter. Good hunting.
On the whole....I'd rather be in Philadelphia....

Now there's something interesting. I have a straight grip 26" A grade 16ga, 301414 Philly instead of Utica but what would the odds of identical config exactly 2000 apart, cool stuff!!!
