the weight mark is on the tubes - not the flats

but - the stamping was done prior to finishing- so they are often struck off by the time the barrels are finished

That's pretty much accurate. But, using charts of factory blueprints dated 1912 McIntosh told us that the 20 gauges were given a slightly different number sequence---0-2-3-4, as opposed to the 1-2-3-4 sequence used for 12 and 16 gauges. McIntosh also went on to say that in about 1922, the factory added a fifth 12-ga. class, No. 0, for the Super Fox.OH Osthaus wrote:the weight mark is on the tubes - not the flats

I have 4 Foxes and the only one that has the barrel stamp visible is a 12 Fox pin gun, clearly marked with 4 on each barrel--it is a light 12 choked cyl/mod as noted in the Fox catalogs of that era
