12 ga Fox Extractor Restock

Post by Goldenfox »

My 12 ga Fox is nearly done. The wood has been completed along with the checkering, true to style. The only thing left is to rust blue the barrels that required 26 hours of my time to hone and polish. This gun was a real beater with pitting and dents. Thankfully the barrels were #2 weight, so I could remove as much metal as was necessary. The barrels, in the white, now look pristine, if I do say so myself.Image

I am not touching the action patina. I want everyone to know this is an old Sterlingworth.

Looks very nice, what rust blue recipe or solution are you going to use?

I learned the charm of a high grade restock on a patina unrestored receiver from a Rossiter 16 gauge that has been pictured here and I saw just as it was being finished up a few years ago. I used the same theme on my Parker VH 32" pigeon gun, which is wonderfully stocked by Dan with no metal restoration except an excellent "rubout" of the barrels and replacement of screws.

WPGriffon,
The recipe is a secret, known only to my gunsmith. He says he could tell you, but then he'd have to....you know the rest.
Honestly, I don't know his recipe.

That is a very elegant gun. Can't wait to see it when it's finished.
