On the homepage, look under mechanisms and styles tab. You will see disassembly instructions.Make sure you use properly fitting screwdrivers. Hope this helps.

Ya, that helped a whole lot. I broke it down, and put it back together successfully without buggering any screws... :D

I was able to get the floor plate flush, but when I put the rear tang screw back in, it must of raised up a bit again.... I think I should have put the floor plate screw back in first, not the rear tang.... Not sure how much more I want to mess with it, I am not a "real gunsmith", not even close... although have played around with guns enough to sorta know what I am doing, but not enough that I feel comfortable goin any further for fear of messing something up, they I would regret later on.

Once thing I did notice, is that the stock was definitely repaired, and looks like they used wooden dowels as pins.. Or, at least that's what it looked like to me... If I had to have someone try to "fix" it better, not sure what they'd find.

Either way, I have pretty much decided to have it restocked, and will have their gunsmith go through the gun before I shoot it. It's probably fine to shoot, but I am in no big hurry...... With any luck, it'll be ready by the time I head to Montana this October. It'll make a great little bird gun, and something I'll probably keep till they put me in the ground, so I'll let my kids worry about how I messed it up for not keeping it original... ;-)

I am doing a Mule deer hunt near Glasgow Montana, and plan to get in a little bird hunting while I am there as well.

Thanks for the info, really love the way this gun points, and feels so far... I guess shooting it will be the real test.

Pretty sure the floorplate is not seating all the way, due to some issues with the stock..... It'll go in nicely, but as soon as the rear tang screw is set, it raises back up.

Pretty sure a restock will be in order for this gun. Have not decided if I am gonna have the barrels reblued as well.

Talked to Macon Gunstocks a couple times now, and they have a picture of a Sterly 16ga they did. Pretty much what I'll most likely do to mine as well.

I'll keep the old wood, but I seriously doubt this gun ever leaves my possession, at least not until it goes to one of my boys.... So, I am not really worried about it's value to anyone but me.

Here is the 16 that Macon did.

I've decided I am going with a repair of the original stock, and leaving this gun as original as I can.

I am not bashing Macon Gunstock, as I really have no experience with them, and they were very nice to talk to on the phone.

But, in doing some research on them, I found just enough that I was very shy about using them.

Does anyone on here have real world experience with them?

If you google Macon Gunstock reviews, you will see why I got cold feet.

I am always nervous about having this kind of work done, as you just never know what to expect.

The place that will hopefully doing the work, I have very good recommendations from some very reliable people.

I will post progress as it happens...

Nice find!
BTW, this is exactly the issue with the floor plate. I can see where the rear set screw has left a "shine" on the underside of the floorplate.

Problem is, I can't budge that set screw, and don't want to mess it up, so will have a gunsmith look at it.

thanks for all the info, this is a great site...

This site was down for a long time, and had forgot all about it.

Anyway, ended up having a master wood finisher refinish and repair the existing stock, and replace the butt plate with a replica replacement. Took a while to get it back, as he does a LOT of work for Browning and they always get priority....

Turned out very nice, and the wood finish is about the same as on my Cooper rifle....

You can still see where he had to do minor repair in the wrist but overall it came out very nice.

Guys name is Al Jamison, I got in touch with via a friend who's dad has worked with Browning for many years.

He has restored a lot of guns for Browning over the years. He's sometimes hard to get in touch with, and it took a pretty long time to get this one back.

I also had him re-do a 1961 Marlin SC and it turned out spectacular as well.

The most important thing here is that you bought a gun off armslist and you didnt get scammed! Every deal i have ever tried to get into on there ends up being bogus. It truely is a craigslist for guns.

When I saw the gun, it was just a bunch of blurry pics, so I called the guy. He is a Ar-15/tactical gun shop in IL. He told me some older gentlemen had brought it in on consignment. I got it for $700..... I asked a lot of questions, etc. and felt at that price, I probably wasn't going to get hurt too bad on a 16ga SW. He also had a Fox B for same price, so not really sure they were that familiar wtih SxS's.

When I got the gun, the only thing that was a surprise to me was a hairline crack in the wrist, if not for that I probably would have just left the gun as is.....

It has some pretty decent case color left, snaps tight, and the barrels are in decent although not perfect shape.

It's a joy to carry, and I am very happy with how it turned out. I have $900 into it with the wood restoration, the gun should be worth at least that much I think.

Plus, sort of a cool serial number ending in "000".... Not that will change anything in the value of the gun, but I guess I am just a bit of a nerd, and think it's kind of cool....
