Another question about my 16 ga. Sterlingworth.
I've read something about 16 ga on 20 ga frame.
What's the story on that? How could I tell without have a 20 beside it to compare?

Re: 16 on 20 frame
According to McIntosh there was an 8 page brochure printed sometime in or around 1911 that introduced the 16ga and 20ga guns. The text described the 16ga as being built on a specially designed 16ga frame. McIntosh argued that the wording in the brochure was designed to differentiate the 16 from the 20 for marketing purposes, when they were really built on the same size frame.

Re: 16 on 20 frame
Fox only made three frame sizes the smallest one is shared by the 16 and 20 gauge the medium frame used on the standard 12 gauge and modified for use on the 20 gauge Super Fox and the large frame used on the 12 gauge Super Fox. Referring to the small frame as a 20 gauge frame is not entirely correct as it is scaled more to the 16 gauge than to the 20 gauge.

Re: 16 on 20 frame
As it pertains to Ansley H. Fox shotguns "16 on a 20-gauge frame" is by and large gun dealer advertising hype. Depending on how much the boys and girls at North 18th Street & Windrim Avenue filed down along with the weight of barrels and stock wood used, they could make guns from barely 5 1/2 pounds to nearly 7 pounds on this one frame. Probably lighter than the Brothers P. could do on an 0-frame, but at the top end nothing like a Parker Bros. 2-frame 20-gauge!!

Re: 16 on 20 frame
As long as we're talking about frames, it won't be long until the calipers come out. How about the long considered question, "Can the Super Fox be made into a ten gauge?" Are the breech ball dimensions and firing pin spacing sufficient for ten gauge barrels?
