The future generation of hunters and collectors!!!

Post by fox-admin »

I had the pleasure of introducing a youth hunter to duck hunting today, Cole and his dad Brett. We had 5 youth hunters at our duck club today 4 boys and 1 young lady. Smiles all around and it gives you faith in the future of our sport and the next generation of hunters. Future Parker and Fox collectors!!

Ok Craig, how many times did you catch them texting, tweeting, Instagraming or playing Candy Crush???

I wonder if we should put a small amount of money aside, say enough to cover 5 youth memberships ($150), a la the PGCA, to fund a few promising, future Fox Collectors? Thoughts?
On the whole....I'd rather be in Philadelphia....

I didn't see one smart phone while hunting. They all posted pictures of the day after they got back to the cabin. They were just kids running through the standing corn, fishing in our bass pond, hugging labs and just having a great time in the outdoors. All good.

It is good to see another generation enjoying the outdoors. I am looking forward to the day when I can hunt with my grandson. I recently talked to a person with the Fish and Game. He told me that of the kids that take hunter safety and buy a hunting liscense approximately twenty five percent do not get one the following year. Pretty dissapointing.

The best way to get the younger generation involved is one kid at a time. I have two sons and both love hunting, even though they just tag along at this point. Get them involved early and often and the rewards are immeasurable.

Some of my most memorable and enjoyable hunts have ben coaching young hunters and handling the dogs during Kansas two day Youth Hunters seasons. There is something very special seeing a young hunter bagging his first bird.

My gun club has an active youth program, however all the young shooters want the new sexy autoloaders or perhaps an O/U. None will even look at a SXS at this point in their life. The sales of SXS shotguns are down...reason is simple...only us old timers want them...as we die off so does the interest...sad situation but true....we all live in a bubble and love our collections and their history. Connecticut Shotgun Manufacturing is making very few Fox guns or any SXS shotguns, yet is going full-bore on production of their sleek O/U offerings. They see the future and us old SXS collectors are relics of the past (IMHO).

Happy Shooting!

For the past two years I have take a youth and their parent on a pheasant hunt at the local wildlife area during the annual youth pheasant hunting weekend. It is a true pleasure to see a youngster light up when they have their first bird pointed and watch it fall to a nice shot. Really makes me smile.

In my early 40s and have two fox SW 16s. Definitely the exception at the local gun club. Cheers to Ansley and a wonderfully balanced double! :D

Stefen
Ansley out hunting.
