Joseph P. Knapp Fox

Post by eightbore »

A member suggested to me that Joseph P. Knapp, founder of the predecessor of Ducks Unlimited, may have owned or ordered a Super Fox. I know that David Trevallion wrote about a Super Fox with a gold "Joe Knapp Club" medallion in the stock. However, that was probably not Joseph Knapp's gun. Anyone know of a Fox ordered by Joseph P. Knapp?

Any relation to J.B. Knapp the West Virginia trap shooter in the pre-WW-I years? J.B. Knapp got a Fox shotgun in 1911 with very high dimensions.

Two different shooters. I was trying my best to make the JB into a JP on the order card, but the JB is pretty clear.

J P Knapp and his son J F "Dode" Knapp did indeed own several Fox guns akong with many other high quality arms. J P also gave them away as gifts with his Joe Knapp Club medalions inbeded in the stock.

Mr. Spooner, do you know anything about the rumor that there are Fox guns with Joe Knapp Club medallions on the Eastern Shore of Maryland? There is a Purdey in James Julia's next auction with the Joe Knapp Club medallion. It failed to sell in a previous Julia auction.

I will do a search of the records after I return from the Vintagers and post my findings.

A J . P. Knapp gun was for sale a couple years ago, it had a bad stock and the engraving was really worn, it was a CE Grade 12 gauge. The serial# 10045 and card number#10000! I have pictures of this gun and a copy of the card, email me if you want it, it has his name on the card. Just looked at the pictures of it and most of all the engraving was worn off.

Sorry, I meant J B in my last post! That gun sold for about 2,500, just needed so much work! I passed on it. I purchased a really nice CE 12gauge a few weeks ago, and just found an early BE 12 gauge, 2 barrel set(26/30) it should be here in a few days.
