Using a Fox for a slug gun

Post by Vol423 »

I have a mechanically good 12GA Fox AE that needs new wood. It has a 22 inch cutoff barrel. Since the gun isn't at all collectible and I have two really good 12GA Foxes for hunting, I'm thinking of having a set of rifled barrels installed on the gun. I have a pair of 20GA rifled barrel blanks from Verney Carron that would work. Will the action hold up to heavy slug shooting?

I'd part the gun out rather than dump a wad of money into the conversion that you propose. Just curious, what would you consider heavy slug shooting to be? Law enforcement friends of mine that have to qualify shooting slugs from there 870's describe it as a memorable but uncomfortable event. I think your idea would make an interesting custom project though.
