New To Fox SW

Post by deserttrans »

Hello the name here is Ron, and new to Fox SW. I have the chance to purchase the pictured gun from a older gentleman locally. I have two other SXS, but was amazed at the feel and fit of this gun. It would be used for duck and pheasant. From research on this site it is a Savage and dates to 1934. 12 gauge with full and modified barrels that are 28 inches in length. The LOP is 14 1/2 inches. The bore is excellent and locks up tighter than my Browning BSS. It just feels super great and balance to me is perfect. The gentleman that owns it has had it for over 40 years and wants $500 firm for it. I want to give him a fair price, rather it be up or down in cost to me. I would appreciate your opinions and comments. I really do want this shotgun and want to be fair on the price. Your help is appreciated.

Ron

Wow, the Sterlingworth has great condition. $500 would be a steel! Is it a 12 gauge. Smaller gauges command higher prices.

I am not certain what a fair price is. Maybe $750 and then maybe $900. Wait for others to chime in...

Welcome aboard,
mark

Thanks for the reply Big Friend. It is a 12 Ga. and weighs 7# 4 oz. I am really amazed at the fit and finish and oh man does it fit me perfect. Not shown in the pics, it does have a older Pachmyer pad on it. The gun has some normal use wear and a lot of the case color is worn off. All the numbers match and barrel bluing is excellent. Thanks for the input.

I would say $750 - $800 would be a fair price in today's market. I gave $950 for my 12ga a couple years ago, similar vintage and condition. As BFT says, 20 and 16's will bring a bit more. Looks like a nice gun; bet you will love it!

$800 would be fair to both parties on this gun. Stock finish looks very nice and appears original. That gun has been carried more than shot.

$500.00?? Buy that gun quick or send me the gentlemens #. Really, that is a very nice looking gun in much better condition than guns for several hundred more .Sw are great guns. I have 2 16's, 2 20's, and really like my old 12 ga pin gun.

Thank you everyone for the input and opinions. I will be speaking to the owner and firm the deal up this week. I have seen a few on Gunbroker but it is hard to see what is really what, as far as true condition and price.

I would give $800.00 for that gun in a minute. $500.00 asking price is an absolute steal.

Sterlingworths with any case color left on them are hard to find. $750 or more.
