Sterlingworth 16 and pheasants

Post by 3birddogs »

This SW came to me with barrels cut to 26 1/2"(still alot of choke) and a very pretty replacement stock and pad nicely done. It is a Utica gun and has 2 3/4" chambers, so I can shoot heavier loads thru it, but in reality I never shoot more than 1 oz, and usually use 7/8 oz. The setters are a father/daughter brace and hunt well together.

Jim, sadly my third setter, Speck, died last year at age 13 from cancer. She was a wonderful bird dog and the mother of Betty, the female setter in the picture. She is sorely missed.
Setterspell, the pheasants wer e taken at our sportsmans club in Jefferson County, Ohio. I have hunted doves at Hillcrest before, but never pheasants. Where are you located? I grew up in Ohio but live in Wheeling, Wv now.
I used my Sterlingworth Deluxe 16 today and got one pheasant and my buddy got another over my dogs.

I'm in Morgantown but grew up in West Liberty in the early 70's. Hillcrest can be good for doves and I've heard some cock birds once in a while.

Go Hilltoppers!!!
I live between West Lib and Ogelbay Park, and grew up on the other side of the river in Belmont County, Ohio. My wife is related to half the people in West Lib--the Schwertfagers and the Turners. I assume you have setters, what breeding?
My quest to take game with each of my 16 gauges (8) this season is moving right along. 6 down and 2 to go. The final 2 guns are my Fox A grade 16 and a little Parker DHE O frame , straight grip, 26" cyl/m 16 ga. I took a pheasant yesterday with my 16 SW Deluxe. The Fox A 16 will get the nod this weekend.

We have a 10 1/2 year old thats a twin to your pup on the left. He's out of Grouse Ridge line of dogs locally bred. Our 5 1/2y.o. female is Old Hemlock x DeCoverly.

If I recall correctly, the Turners had a dog named Laddie that hated the newspaper boy (me). I could throw their paper from across the road with my right hand while steering my bike and peddling like Lance Armstrong. good times.
