This was about a 2 acre sunflower feld and then corn around that so over all was maybe 5 acres . Think there were about 20 folks shooting and several with pretty decent retrievers .
I carried a Utica AH Fox 16 gauge A grade circa 1930 . Gun has 26" IC/M barrels . Also carried a Browning Superposed 20 gauge circa 1951 26" choked IC/M .
Had a handfull or two of #8 1 ounce 16 gauge handloads along with a box of old Remington Shur Shot 16 gauge 1 1/8 #5's for the 16 !
For the 20 I brought a box of Winchester #8 Dove Quail loads !
Started with the 16 and the handloads . These were kinda low pressure loads I'd made for my Parker GH damascus gun . Anyway I was knocking them pretty well with these . When i ran out I went to the #5 loads . I was hitting them with the 5's but feathers would fly and the birds would keep going , thinking I feathered 6 or so birds with the 5's !
So I was at 9 birds and decided to change over to the Superposed 20 and killed the last 6 with 9 shots !
Took me about 2 hours and 45 shots to get my limit of 15 . This was the first time in almost 20 years I'd killed a limit but it was also the first time in that many years I'd hunted a field that you had a good chance of a limit . And this was the third day that year someone had hunted the field !
