Basic Disassembly

Post by shoestring »

Hello - Just signed up. I was given a Fox shotgun that's been in the family a while. My grandfather ran the Fox Products company in Philadelphia for some time. I was wondering about very basic disassembly; stock/barrels etc. It has one trigger and 2 barrels. Thanks

Hi - I saw that page in my initial look for info; thanks. I'm talking more basic than that; how do I get the barrels separate from the stock? I don't want to force anything.

First remove the forend, if the gun is a Sterlingworth it is snap-on--- just grab the end and pull away from the barrels, if it is a Fox with a forend latch---pull the latch and then pull the forend away from the barrels. Next release the top level while holding the barrels with the free hand- tip the barrels down and they will fall away from the barrel hook. Craig

Hello - I got it apart; thanks for the help. The serial number is 23494, it's a 12 gauge, side by side barrels, it has an X and another mark I'm unsure of; looks like a little square. It has some really nice engraving and some initials on the lower grip plate, which is screwless - I'll try to take some pictures and post them. Thanks again - not looking to sell or trade as it's a family piece and, as I said, my grandfather used to run the remains of Fox Products back in the day.

Does it look like this?

Does it have a fox on the bottom? If so is it nose up or down? If not a fox, what?

Straight grip or pistol grip? One trigger or two?

It has one trigger, pistol grip with initials on the cap, a dog looking at a bird underneath, two birds flying on either side in the small circle and maybe a fox head too. I guess I need to be signed up longer before I can show pictures.

If you are having trouble posting pictures, youcan send them to me at AHFCA@comcast.net and I'll post them. Tell us more about your Grandfather and his association with Fox Products Co.

This is a reproduction of the 1912 A.H. Fox Gun Co. catalogue that Fox Products use to send out to folks who inquired about Ansley H. Fox shotguns --

Great - I'll send them to you soon. My grandfather, who passed away a few weeks ago at 98, owned/ran Fox products for years. My father took over at one point and ran it for a while as well. I used to visit as a little kid and at that time there were just a few employees assembling battery chargers. It was located in, what had become over the years, a dicey part of town.
