I am hoping to add a set of 30"-32" barrels to my fox with tighter chokes to compliment the open choked 26" barrels currently fitted. What measurements do I need to take on my receiver and which are crucial to get off a potential barrel set? I know it's unlikely to find a set that fit perfectly but the closer the better right?
Thank you much,
Pat

Re: Which measurements for fitting barrels?
I'd want to know the distance from the front of the hinge pin to the breech face. It would also be good if the width of the breech nearly matched the width of the barrels. A creative man with a smoke lamp and a good selection of files should be able to get any other adjustments made. That said, if it was me, I'd just as soon add another gun with the chokes and barrels I wanted to the stable. The 2 barrel sets I've seen always seem to have one set of favorite, well used barrels and the other set is pretty much unblemished. Just an observation.

Fullchoke16 is correct about measuring the width of barrels at breech.Your gun might have light #4 barrels and barrels you find might be #1 or 2 and breech face on your gun would probably be narrower. Bobby

Re: Which measurements for fitting barrels?
After having this done recently, i think the width measurements at the breech are the most important. Metal can be added or removed to fit them fore/aft. Not so the width. I got very lucky. Mine were within .001".
