Clean-Care of etched metal

Post by cucinotta »

Found Grandfather's AH Fox 12 gauge, A Grade #24046 in basement. Inside the Krupp Fluid Steel barrel is excellent, however, the etched area around trigger and breach has some rust. What is this metal? How is it best cared for, and polished?

DO NOT POLISH under any circumstances. Wet with Hoppe's overnight and dry in the morning---rub with a clean cloth and repeat. Many vintage guns have ruined by polishing with an abrasive. Pictures of your gun would be very helpful. Craig
