Rib separation...

Post by jawjadawg »

Please take a look at this rib separation. I just picked this gun up at my FFL after being promised the gun was solid mechanically and without rust by a seller in Florida. It appears there is an old solder repair that has weakened, or at least some of the solder has fallen out of the repair. The barrels still ring, but...a fissure is a fissure, and they never get smaller or heal themselves. I am asking if anyone thinks this can be repaired with having to refinish the barrels? Or am I better of, from a value standpoint, to refinish the barrels when it is repaired?

I'm not sure I am going to repair them. The seller has offered to return my money, sans his shipping costs incurred when he sent it to me. Which brings up another point - what a load of crap. I wouldn't have purchased the gun if he hadn't promised there was no rust and everything was solid. Not only is the below rib damage present, but there are also two small spots of pitting on the exterior of one barrel. The guy is either blind, or dishonest. I haven't figured out yet which, but either way I'm going to be out my shipping, his shipping, and the FFL fee due to his nondisclosure.

Seller is saying he has never noticed either issue, and claims to have shot several rounds of skeet and 5 stand. I'd say if you can see well enough to shoot clays then you can likely see well enough to see pitting and a separated rib.

! would send it back as fast as i could! Rib would have to be removed and relaid and barrels reblued to do a proper job. Probably $800 or more. Bobby
