Single Barrel Trap

Post by Researcher »

The A.H. Fox Gun Co. didn't seem to do much advertising for their single barrel trap gun. In years of searching old sporting magazines, I've found ads in September and November 1919, issues of National Sportsman and Field & Stream. The September 1919, ads state "Write for full description and price." The November 1919, ads state "SEND FOR ILLUSTRATED CATALOG." Does anyone know of an A.H. Fox Gun Co. single barrel trap gun brochure, flyer, catalog? Or, was there just the inclusion of the SBTs in the pocket "Fox Gets the Game" catalogs?

Savage ran Fox Single Barrel Trap Gun ads in the June, July and September 1930 issues of The American Rifleman, but those same months of National Sportsman and Field & Stream carried Fox-Sterlingworth or Super-Fox ads.

Dave,

Great question!!! The only piece that I have seen is the Savage era pamphlet (4 panels I think) with both the SBT and Trap Grade sxs featured. I suspect you have seen the piece I'm referring to. I can get a pic or two of mine if not.

I have the Savage era Trap Gun brochure. I'm wondering if there was a Philadelphia era SBT brochure? Maybe something like the early "smallbore" booklet pictured on page 140 of McIntosh's book, or the Super-Fox brochures?

I was going through some photos one of my interlocutors sent me some time ago and found this titled 1919, Trap Gun Brochure no M grade --

Image

It appears to be just the pages 19 to 22 out of the 1919 Fox Gets the Game pocket catalogue, but without the page numbers on the bottom of at least page 19?!?

Image

I wonder if it originally had a cover?

Dave: I may owe you an apoligy for forgetting about the stand alone Premier of trap guns; it 's not in the normal format of a color
brochure. The "brochure" is simply a single 3 1/2 in. sheet folded in two, to form a four page item 6 in long. There are no staple
marks or any other indications of a cover-and no page numbers. I have had it so long, I have no idea where I got it; but I do not remember
buying it separately and suspect it was included in an another catalogue. I'd like to know how they were normally distributed ?

By the by, Tom should recognize himself as an interlocuter. (#1, Merriam Webster Collegiate)

Shot my recent acquisition, Fox #400,104 today. It fired every time I pulled the trigger, but the skeet field is not the best place to test fire a gun with .040 of choke constriction.
