Barrel marking question
Barrel marking question
I have noticed that some, but not all, Fox barrels are marked with numbers under the fore stock. I have seen this being a 3 or a 4 on both barrels. Is this a choke or a weight marking? Since I have not seen this on all Fox guns, can someone shed some light on when this was done? Thanks in advance.

Thank you. Is there a reference as to how heavy the barrels are to the corresponding numbers? When did this numbering system begin? I have inspected three SWs , one with #3 and the other two have no numbers. Also inspected a CE with no numbers

I currently don't have access to the McIntosh book. Why are some marked and others not?

Re: Barrel marking question
The reason you don't see the marks on all barrels is simply that they were stamped before finishing.
Some barrels, especially the lighter ones end up having the number struck off by the time all the clean up and polishing is done

Re: Barrel marking question
Thanks to everyone I'm starting to understand the reason they don't all have numbers. You guys are awesome.
