Ejectors system

While cleaning my HE the other day I found that one of the two small pins used with what I assume is the ejector system had broken loose cleanly from the forward mount. I have the pin. Any suggestions on the correct way to take care of this? Is a replacement part availible? Where could a competent gun repair be located for repair? Love to shoot it but first time any problem has come up. Any help is greatly appreciated. bugs

Is the pin the one that goes through side of forend iron? where is it located? Bobby

It's located at the underside of the barrels where they are cut to allow the ejectors to seat. The pin I put back in seems to be working, ejects, but the right pin now seems stuck in the barrel. I know enough to know what's going on, may have to take it to Memphis, TN.

I think he's talking about the "guide pin" on the back of the ejector face.

Absolutely Marshfellow, I read a few comments, Silvers,etc. The guide pins are the culpits. Can a good machine shop take care of this or do I need to go to an established gunsmith? Thanks for the help.

I currently have a set of 20ga Sterlingworth barrels with Dewey Vicknair for a similar problem, except in my case, someone drilled holes in the face of the ejector and the pin came through the front. You said the pin seems stuck in the barrel. If the loose pin can still be removed (in other words it hasn't receded into the barrels) I would take it out and send it to a competent Gunsmith to have it fixed. Just my opinion.

Yes, a machinist can try to remove the broken guide pin. First, using a tiny end mill to face off the break, then a twist drill. This will usually work if the pin is jammed in the hole, but if the broken pin starts spinning you're out of luck. Look for a shop with a horizontal milling machine.... easiest to set up for the job and least costly to try. If that's not available a common vertical mill like a Bridgeport etc can be used - but will force the machinist to set up a fixture to hold the barrel vertical, off the back of table, and absolutely in line with the spindle in both axes (easier said than done). Also the machine head must be rotated to accomodate that setup and for various reasons shops usually don't want to do that. All told, using a vertical mill will be more costly because it will take way more time at the shop's hourly rate. Alternately a really good machinist can do it by clamping the barrel on a lathe carriage. Complicated setup but it will work. I am reluctant to offer up more here. Sometimes giving advanced tech advice backfires on me in unexpected ways. Nuff said.

Readers, please don't try doing this yourself by hand or on a drill press. You'll get the hole oversized and/or eccentric. I've seen many Foxes goofed up thusly and usually they're for sale. Caveat emptor. Silvers

Took the gun down to Warner in Memphis, TN who replaced the broken pin and adjusted the cocking rods. Shot sporting clays in Cinn, OH that weekend. While cleaning the gun discovered the other pin had broken! Good that I like Memphis.
