Recently got my newly acquired 1920 Sterlingworth back from the gunsmith's initial review and discovered that the left barrel fires via the front trigger. My other SxS's fire the right barrel with front trigger. Is this unique to the Sterlingworths or just an oddity?
Nothing on my factory letter from Mr Callahan about any special options when ordered.
Thank you,
Dave

Re: Barrel firing sequence
Sounds like it was built for a southpaw shooter.
Recoil is most noticed when I miss
Re: Barrel firing sequence
Obviously at some time the triggers were reversed either to accommodate a left hand shooter or my guess they were removed and replaced in the wrong locations by someone with minimum double gun knowledge or who wasn't paying attention. Your problem is easily corrected by removing the trigger plate, driving out one very small pin and switching the triggers back to their normal position.
Re: Barrel firing sequence
Is there a quick tutorial availible on this site showing how to remove the triggerplate? I am in a rural area and this time of the year the gun smith I use is covered up with deer rifles I am sure.

Re: Barrel firing sequence
go to the Homepage and there is a great step by step tutorial on disassembling your Fox. I disassebled my Fox last week for the first time and it was simple. You should utilize gunsmith screw drivers (not tappered) or you may bugger up your screws. I bought a cheap ($30) set at the gun shop that worked fine, although I did have to reduce (Dremel) the width of a few blades to fit correctly.

I love all of my SxS's, especially my Grade A Fox made in Utica NY
Re: Barrel firing sequence
I would also check the chokes just to be sure that some left hander did not open the left barrel. Let's say it was Right barrel Modified and Left barrel Full. If they changed it for a left hander they may have left the right barrel alone and opened up the Left barrel from Full to IC. This way you were still using the open barrel with the first trigger.
I have seen it before.

If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck
Re: Barrel firing sequence
Being a left handed shooter I have often contemplated exchanging the Fox trigger positions. As I age I find it more difficult to reach around the back trigger to get to the front trigger. I much prefer the double trigger flexibility and have decided to live with the standard configuration.
As for the "first trigger" that depends on the distance to the dog's "p'int". Often that distance calls for the tighter choke initially and then the more open choke as the shooter walks up to the "p'int".
My 1934 Superposed Lightning has the Twin Single Triggers. That setup provides the ultimate flexibility (for me).
