Flat sided Sterlingworths
There's a discussion on another board about Sterlingworths with flat sides, but with the usual engraving pattern following the outline of where the raised panels would be if they were there, not plain like the SP's. I seem to remember I've seen a pic of one such gun. Anyone have any history on these?

Re: Flat sided Sterlingworths
I guess it was one of Savages cost-cutting attempts or just using up excess SP-frames to produce some guns and move inventory during those tough depression years. I've recorded five 16-gauge flat-sided Fox-Sterlingworths from 376996 to 377119. In 12-gauges I've recorded a gaggle from 132788 to 132927, and some right near the end in the 1613xx range. A 16-gauge --
Even though I've never owned one, I did send some flatside serial numbers to Roe Clark back when letters were cheap and there was absolutely nothing special noted on the production cards. Same for drawbolt Fox-Sterlingworths I've lettered.

I have a 16 gauge #377058 SP franed gun with 28" barrels. The Callahan letter only stated that it was one of the last guns to leave the factory, never mentioned the type of frame. A really nice little gun.

looks like they were using one in this 1944 advertisement...
Beware the man with one gun...he likely will bore you to death in others ways, too.

Hi Mike,
The gun in the picture is an SP or SPE. You can see the A.H. Fox on the side near the stock.
