Another thread on the question of replacing original pads. First, I don't know if this Jostam No Kick Coming pad is original. Please inform me if you know. The pad's glue obviously failed and the former owner(s) used friction tape and 3 screws to hold it on. I've had this gun a long time and kind of like the old pad.
I have an unused pad as shown but it's date is too new for the gun. The gun is a 1923 HE with 32"- 2 3/4 barrels. This gun has been used but the stocks are still in perfect shape as are the bores. How many rounds does it take to wear the name and dates off a Jostam pad? lol

The only way to know if the pad is original to the gun is to get a letter. I have an old brochure from the Jostam MFG Co and your pad is a Sponge Rubber Two Ply pad. Your spare is a Black Sponge Rubber Two ply pad, at one time it looks like they made it in red, you learn somthing everyday!
If it were me I would save the vold pad and replace it with a repro NO Shok from galazan or the Black two ply that you have.

The Sponge-Rubber pad was originally the Huntley Pad prior to WW-I. After The Great War Jostam had acquired Huntley and offered one-, two-, and three-ply Sponge-Rubber Pads into the post WW-II years. We see Fox production cards that do specify the Jostam Sponge Rubber Pad, but the Jostam Anti-Flinch was the "factory" pad on most CE-Grade and below guns. Most higher grade guns, when ordered with a pad got a leather-faced Silvers or "Silvers type" pad (often a Jostam Air Cushion). During the Savage years we see some orders specifying a Hawkins pad. The Jostam No Kick Coming pad was their lowest priced pad and I've never seen it specified. The Jostam Hy Gun Pad was the one often seen on Becker guns.
