I ran into a problem with a 1926 Sterlingworth (16 ga.). The stirrup on the right side hammer is cracked and hanging on by a thread, so to speak. In other words, it's dead and needs to be replaced. The only place I was able to find a replacement was Numrich (gunpartscorp.com). And, they are out of stock. I doubt they will be getting one anytime soon. Any ideas on where I could find a stirrup would be greatly appreciated. I'd prefer to replace the stirrup rather than purchase an entire hammer (assuming, of course, that the hammers Numrich sells include the stirrup). Much less fitting required, I think.
Thanks

Re: Sterlingworth Hammer Problem/stirrup
I'm thinking that Gun Parts Co only has parts for 12 gauge A H Fox guns. 12 and 16 gauge hammers are different, as are the hammer springs. I don't have a 16 gauge apart right now to check sizing on the stirrup, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's shorter and smaller diameter than 12 gauge. Best you might do is offer a premium here and on some of the other SxS sites, to anyone willing to sell a smallbore hammer/stirrup, or just the stirrup. Alternately a machine shop could make one up using your old one as a model. Be sure the shop has facilities to Rockwell test the old stirrup, and harden the new one to that spec. It can't be too hard, nor too soft. Silvers
