Removing a Jostam pad

Post by fox-admin »

I would like to remove a Jostam pad on a Fox. I inserted a Phillips head screw driver in the access hole and it didn't work. Anyone know what type of screw was used, I believe the pad was factory installed. Thanks Craig

Craig some of the Jostam pads such as the one and two ply sponge rubber styles have the base tacked on and the pad glued to the base. My Anti-Flinch model is attached to my AE using slotted (flat tip) screws.

The badly deteriorated, leather-faced, Jostam Anti-Flinch removed from my SPE-Grade Skeet & Upland Game Gun was attached with slotted screws but the heads had been filed down to a smaller diameter. A Silvers removed from a CE-Grade I once owned was attached with regular Fox buttplate screws.

Describe your pad to us. If you have a pad such as that described by TwiceBarrel, you are in for a real treat. These have to be pried off. Be careful of the wood edges. Once you peel the rubber part of the pad from the base, you should see the nail heads. There will be dozens of them, or, you may be lucky and see your screw heads, just two of them.

Craig, I had one a while back with a black base pad that had at least a zillion tacks holding it to the stock. But they were easy to remove using a diagonal wire cutter; my Dad always called them dikes but I guess that's not PC any more. Good luck with your project!

I'm headed out to Ernie Hausmann's in a few minutes. It will be good to see some double guns getting ready for the season. Looks like I can get away for most of the day. Yipee! I just got into the safe to get one of the Foxes but a LCS was looking at me from way in the back. I guess I'll give her a break today. She hasn't been out in a while now. Frank

It is one of the angle slotted style pads. I can't seem to get a screw diver to catch the screw slot. I will try again and let you know. ------OK I got it, it was a straight slot screw.
