Ejector/Extractor Barrels-Are they interchangeable?

Post by DoveBird »

I was wondering if you can use ejector barrels with an extractor receiver. In other words are the barrels interchangeable and will the ejectors work?

Thanks

DoveBird,

Your question requires a fairly complex answer involving ejector shoes, extractor shoes, forearms, etc.

I'll try and answer to the point though, The barrels may interchange with some fitting but your ejectors will not function with an non-ejector reciever. The ejector reciever will have the trip notches in the front of it that trip the ejectors in the forearm when the barrels are broken open. An extractor reciever doesn't have the trip's built into it and there fore it has nothing to activate the ejectors.

I hope this helps, if not I'm sure someone will be along to explain it better.

about ejectors

I know that you can put a set of extractor barrels on an ejector gun and they will work. of course they must be fit. I had a SW that was an ejector gun and it came with a second set of barrels but with extractors.

The barrels alone are exactly the same. Everything else is different.

Notice the stud that sticks up at hinge pin to work extractor. On ejector gun it is shorter so that it fits notches cut in split ejectors. You need to file an extractor frame stud down because the stud is longer and slightly rounded at top. You can remove the split ejectors to fit a set of ejector barrels to extractor frame. Extractor barrels can be converted to ejector by fitting split ejectors or other way around. Bobby
