I'm considering redoing bluing on my HE barrels...

who would you folks recommend? They were in Dr. Gaddy's shop prior to his passing and were returned unfinished (furniture was with Doug Mann who did a terrific job refinishing). I'm interested in who and why? Here's the gun in question...

Doug Turnbull is my go to guy, a fellow Western New Yorker, excellent work and a major supporter of the NRA. Utah, was the flat on the stock checkered to cover a crack or is it the original pattern?

No, at the time of refinishing I owned a custom/upgraded Sterlingworth 16g w/ checkered cheeks, a CE with checkered cheeks so when Doug had the HE I asked him to do the cheeks. There were/are no cracks in this stock/forearm and imo Doug did a heck of a job. He also installed a leather covered pad. Almost too nice to bring to the blind  .

Here's a few close ups of the cheeks, rest assured...no cracks.

I remember that gun very well Mike! It is a very, very nice HE and I can assure anyone that the wood was perfect on the gun - at least when I had it. Mike takes care of his guns so I wouldn't expect it to be any less nice now.

Mike, if you're thinking of having the barrels reblued Dave Norin would do a nice job or you could give my bearded buddy Glenn Fewless a call. Both of these guys are way picky!!!!!!

Hello Doug, sure have enjoyed hunting with that HE and your work brings positive feedback from everybody that handles the gun. In fact, just a couple of weeks ago the gun was at Deer Creek where another gunsmith, Toby Leeds, commented on the excellent checkering job.

As you might have noticed, I've floated the idea of selling the HE and a CE Lefever. Prices were a bit steep, but I'm in no hurry to sell either, so since the initial interest has died down I'll send the barrels off to Dave VandenBrand in Michigan and have it back in time to hunt puddlers in ND mid October.

Again, thanks for the fine stock refinishing and LCP. I hope to see you at an upcoming CADA show (quality of vendors has improved dramatically within the past year).

My next project is restocking a WR Fauneta due to its short LOP. IMO, the perfect Illinois deer gun and worked well on Black Bear (hope to give this another go in Minnesota 2008)
