Savage factory 16 Ga 2 3/4" chambers

Post by nca225 »

Would it safe to shoot 1 3/4" , 1 1/8 once loads in factory 2 3/4" chambers? Safe as in safe, and not harmful to the gun.

Thanks,

The Super-X 16-gauge Load with 1 1/8 ounces of shot and 3 drams equiv. of progressive burning powder came out in 1923. About 1931, concommitant with the introduction of their 16-gauge autoloaders (Model 11 and The Sportsman), Remington added the 2 3/4 inch 3 1/4 dram equiv. 1 1/8 ounce Auto-Express load to their ammunition line. I certainly wouldn't shoot them on a regular basis, but I have used 1 1/8 ounce loads in several of my 16-gauge Fox guns when I thought they were called for. For high volume use I really prefer my 7/8 ounce 16-gauge reloads. Easy on me and the old guns.
