Late model Savage Fox Sterlingworth

Post by nca225 »

Well, I jumped on an opportunity to pick up another Fox Sterlingworth 16GA off of GB last night. This one would be my second Sterlingworth for me so I am officially starting a "collection"! Serial # 377050, which I think puts it as a late model Savage gun, with a flat receiver. My question with regard to my new girl is that when Savage went to the flat receiver, was the width of the flat receiver as wide from the the raised side to the other corresponding raised side on lets say a Philly style receiver or as wide as the lowered section beneath the raised side to the corresponding point on the other side on a Philly style receiver. In another, not so convoluted way, is the Savage flat style receiver as wide as the widest points or the thinnest points (excluding the rounded part for the barrels) on a Philly style receiver?

I'll post some pics when I receive the gun, but in the interim here's the link to the auction. Feel free to provide any unsolicited advice with any issues you may see. Thanks for any thoughts on it.

Chris very cool gun. Most of us have never seen a flat sided 16. Mr Noreen the Dean of Sterlingworths will be very excited. Looks like a real nice interesting gun. Good buy also!!

NCA225 nice going. I had looked at that gun myself but could not get the seller to contact me with the barrel length. A first time seller that won't respond to questions threw me off and I decided to pass because even as desireable as a SP frame Sterlingworth would be I already have enough 26 and 28 inch barrel 16's. Would like to hear what the barrel lengths are when you get it though.

April is a good month here for 16-gauge Fox-Sterlingworths!! Added my Fox-Sterlingworth Skeet & Upland Game Gun to the tables and now an SP-frame 16-gauge Fox-Sterlingworth. Now have eight S&UGGs and four SP-frames recorded.
