16 ga. sterly. fired on closeing

Post by idler »

While hunting yesterday, and after firing shots with either bbl. I fired the rt. bbl. and reloaded it,and upon closing it, it fired? It was pointed safely away from anything, thankfully!

My finger was definately not on the trigger. I can only assume that something got between the sear and the hammer and prevented the hammer fron setting!
Has any one had this happen?

happened to me once on a new to me A grade at a skeet range... turns out it was oil soaked wood under the lower tang... the screw was over tightened and long story short it was holding just a slight bit of pressure up on sear. I took it to Buck Hamlin and he said he had seen this problem several times... unfortunately, he did not quite get it fixed just right and the first time I took it out shooting after he "fixed" it the first time, it doubled and broke the rotary bolt clean in two. Buck is GREAT smith and after I got a new bolt he fixed it the second time for free, or at least nearly free and it has worked great sense... its a good thing b/c its the one Fox I can really shot like a house on fire and I have not had a problem with it sense.

Not saying that your problem is the same that I faced but just my one time of having this issue.
Cheers!
