Markings on Barrel Flats?

Post by vaturkey »

Just picked up my Sterlingworth 20 gauge with the beavertail. Was giving it the once over and while looking closely at the barrel flats, I came across the capital letter V and Z and the smaller letter u. V would be on the right barrel orientated vertically. Ditto with the Z on the left barrel. small u is placed under the V. Other markings are the usual SP in a circle. Any ideas. This is a later gun made in 1937. Actually the latest gun I've ever held. Has a few issues, barrels have been reblued, stock cut and stock also refinished. However, she is good and tight. Only a splash of case colors left. Mostly silver. Appreciate thoughts on the letters. I'll see if I can take and post a pic.
