Here are some pics of a J grade Trap. The gun has good color but the Frankenstein Stock( spliced out comb) is typical of Trap shooters looking for that couple extra targets. Paul
Oh Crap Foxist! Now I'm really green with envy and I'm not even Irish. I had an L grade many years ago, [like 1959] and like a fool let it go. I got weaned away from trapshooting and double guns for a while and didn't get back with Foxes until a few years ago. Now of course I need a single trap to round out my small cache of Philadelpia iron. Yours looks to even have a straight grip which is my prefered configuration. I know all about the Frankenstien comb jobs as I kept in beer money doing that kind of crap for trapshooters in those days, unfortunately to some very nice guns. Ah the vagrancy of youth. Thanks for sharing! Lee.
Lee #400384 is a J grade with 30" barrel choked full and straight grip. This is my only Fox single trap gun so I don't have any others to compare with. I find it interesting that it is bored exactly as any 30" double from the same period (early 20's) .727 bores with .036 of choke and the choke is a standard taper 3.5" long. I will say though that the bores do show a good degree of polishing. chamber is 2 5/8".The stock does not fit me well but I managed to shoot a 23 and 22 the only two rounds I had it at the trap field. They are very stoutly built and the ejectors are very strong on this one anyway. How did you like the old L grade you had was it a30 or 32"?
My L grade was 32",straight grip with [ gasp, a Morgan pad]. I think mine was at least that tight choked and was 2 3/4" chambered. At that time we shot mostly Federal paper and the Mark 5 Winchester was relativly new. I think I paid $450.00 for it and $500 for my doubles gun which was a Ithaca 4E NID 32" Imp/mod. and Full with a single trigger, vent rib, and beavertail. Ah the good old days!! I wish I had both of them back. Lee.
