Were graded Foxes ever stock with European Walnut

Post by Vol423 »

I'm going to restock an early CE 12 gauge with badly sanded wood. The original wood has figure that reminds me of European walnut. The stocker says he's never seen anything but Juglans Nigra on the Foxes he's stocked. I have a nice blank of English but I'll use American black walnut if that's what they were always stocked with. Can anyone enlighten me?

I believe almost all the early graded Foxes were stocked in English walnut unless the requester specified American Black Walnut. However I think Savage entered the mix, many graded Foxes were also stocked with Black Walnut as well. Sterlingworths were always stocked with Amercian Walnut. So in short, the English Walnut you have would me most appropriate for a C grade.
