Sterlingworth 32" barrels
Yesterday I looked at a nice 32" Sterlingworth 12ga that a friend of mine will be selling. I saw the recent thread but it was composed of older comments. My question is "Are these rare and in demand"? I know I shouldn't ask what it is worth because that varies by how bad somebody wants something but can someone give me a range of where they are selling today. This is an original gun with a checkered stock. Thanks

Re: Sterlingworth 32" barrels
The 28" and 30" Sterlingworths are by far the most common, followed by the 26" and 30" guns. High condition 12ga Sterlingworths are uncommon but not rare. 32" small bore Sterlingworths are rare. Longer barrels seem all the rage these days.
The great think about Sterlingworths is they are still affordable to the average guy. When we set up our booth at shows it is heart warming to see quite a few younger people come in and talk about the Sterlingworth they just bought and are hunting with it. I think the fact there are so many Sterlingworths available at reasonable prices will keep the ranks of Fox collectors and shooters growing in the future.

Re: Sterlingworth 32" barrels
price is really a hard thing to say without seeing, at the very minimum pictures.... but really would need to see the gun in hand or at least be able to ask a lot of questions.
Condition/ originality is really probably the largest driver of value. Is the gun still in its original configuration... examples would be: are the chokes original? original blue? how much case color? stock style? original chambers? Butt pad or plate?
If you know or can find out, could you provide the serial number to the hundredths? Just XX out the last two digits.
As Craig stated, 12 bores are much more common in 32" than 20 bores or 16s but still fairly less common then other lengths in 12 bore.
If your friend wants to sell it quickly, I recommend he posts it here in the for sale section...
for a range...honestly, the gun could be worth anywhere from $200 to $3000+ the high end being in original condition with the box. Posting it on gunbroker with no minimum will allow the market to show the value and there are plenty of buyers to ensure it reaches market value.
hope that helps
