Sterlingworth barrels on an A grade ??

Post by HardCash »

As I've posted recently, I purchased a Sterlingworth and had to send it to Dewey Vicknair so he could deepen the too shallow rim grooves. Modern shells had too thich of a rim.
The Sterlingworth has great balance with it's 26" barrels but there is too much drop at the comb for me.
Today I received an A grade with 30" barrels and the stock fits me like a glove.
It is in fine mechincal shape, but cosmetically it is a fixer upper, which I knew.
I am planning on sending it to Vicknair for a complete restoration, but had a question.
Can the 26" Sterlingworth barrels be fitted to the A grade ???

they will likely need to be fitted by a smith... I am sure that Dewey can do that as well if you want to send him both guns at the same time...
Cheers!

If you use the Sterly bbls on the A grade you will likely need to replace (build a new) forend metal and wood. Most A's are latch type and all Sterlys were made with the snap on front end (AFAIK). There were a very few early graded Foxes with snap on fe's - I have one - the 4th graded 16 bore built. It is a C grade gun.
