Who would have guessed

Post by cargie32 »

While looking over some of my old notes I came across a few I thought might be interesting, these are but a few of the hundreds of odd request placed by people ordering Fox guns

#20205 "C" forend 3" longer

#20527 "A" Lt. bbl 3", Rt. bbl 2 3/4" (chambers)

#21164 "CE" no engraving

#21206 "C" no engraving on bbls, gold line at breech only.

#21298 "CE" gold lightening bolt on each bbl

#21425 "DE" no lettering on bbls, finish gun in satin

#24400 "CE" gold lines at end of bbls, no engraving except borderline

#25638 no grade, exhibition, 7 cards

#26024 "CE" skeleton butt, no engraving

#26029 "CE" make top lever come straight

Many guns were ordered requesting a percent of shot for each bbl at given distances, with given loads, usually 30" circle at 40 yds, but not always. Also, some would order a gun to shoot a given no. of pellets in 30" circle at 40 yds, with a given load. I think that would be a pretty tough requirement to meet.

There were plenty of "gun cranks" in those days and it said so on some of the cards.

I think I have one of those type guns.
12 ga 30 Mod & full Finished as a Sterlingworth.
Soon to be on Gunbroker with a buy it now of 20K+.

Seriously why order a C grade with no engraving? Maybe they want C grade wood and were planning on aftermarket engraving/

Both of my Parkers with "no engraving" have survived over 100 years without any aftermarket engraving. One is a CH and one a AAH. I enjoyed reading this old thread started by my old friend, Bill.
