LC Smith 3E

Post by Stan Hillis »

I recently was offered a 1905 3E. It was shipped from the Far North to the Deep South with a 5 day, firing inspection. Everything checked out fine, it was perfectly regulated, so it stayed heah'. It has the second set of barrels that were fitted to it, in about 1927, which are 32", have 3" chambers, a vent rib, and tight chokes in both barrels. They're engraved with the owner's name, who sent the gun back and had these barrels made and fitted. He was a member of the Philadelphia Gun cub, which was very active in shooting trap pigeons. The gun is in fine, original condition, with a HOT. Barrels carry the original blue, have .726" bores and .039" chokes ...... each of them 4+" long.

The #1 set of barrels is not with the gun now, but I know where they sleep. They are 30" long, and wear a splinter f/e.

Stan,
That gun is really nice, I have been trying to get down to bachelders to look at their stuff. A lot of guys in here said this can get "addicting" I am starting to understand. Congratulations on a beautiful gun.

No change, Fred. The owner, from whom I bought the gun, still has them. They're fitted to another Smith that he shoots a lot. He has promised them to me if he ever decides to part with them. I hope he lives, and enjoys them, a long time.

The 3E was responsible for a limit of these "mallets", and a couple bonus ducks, a couple months ago in the L 'Anguille R. backwaters in E. Arkansas. My youngest son (who farms with me) and I. Oh, and Max.

Thanks for the kind thoughts.

Hi Stan, Did you get the doubling problem fixed? Or is it still a single shot? lol
Goodbye Mandy, once in a life time hunting dog. I miss you every day.

Stan, what a great gun! Those pre-13 Smiths were headed up really well. Frank.
