Any trailing hound pics?

Post by Silvers »

We've seen some good bird dogs and retrievers so far. Thanks to those who posted the pics. How about some pics of bassets, beagles, hound mixes, Birdsongs, Triggs, etc etc? Plenty of other game and fur has been shot with Foxes ahead of slow and fast trailing hounds.

I also want to show a framed print I picked up recently. It's a copy of Brought to Bay by Philip R Goodwin. The scrap yard advertised on the print was sold prior to WW2 and the new owners used a different business name, so this print has seen some things over its ~75 year life. It now hangs in my game room. Check out the double digit phone number. Also of note, the village of Lanesboro shown on the print is at the edge of a large and wild tract of state game lands that's always been a special place to me. That was and is "deep woods" and it's one of the first places I deer hunted after I started to drive. And it's still a good place to take a Sterly and rabbit dogs for snowshoes in the laurels ..... white rabbits as called by the locals. :)

Our coonhound/lab mix named "Bones''. He has a great nose, but it tends to lead him astray sometimes.

He has accompanied me on a few pheasant hunts. Not a great bird dog but a loyal companion.

12 years old now and his best days are behind him.

Jason,
That is a really good looking dog, I enjoy "reading" the looks on our dogs faces. I hope you keep getting memories from him. Thanks for posting

Good looking dog, Jason. Will Bones trail a lion and put it up a tree? Jim

Jim I don't hunt cougars but Bones does well helping me sniff out the coyotes around the ranch.

My 7 month old Nellie learning to track. Labs can be trained to track about anything at an early age. Always trust your dogs nose 99% of the time they are correct you are not tracking crippled game.

Thanks Jason for posting. Your "Bones" looks to be about 80 pounds and he's probably still all muscle though probably slowing down a bit but no less a good companion.

Frank, I don't remember, have you posted a picture of your "Kaiser" before? Jim

Here's Kaiser my best buddy ever. He's a Redtick mix, 72 pounds and sharp as a tack. Starting to slow down just like his dad, but when K man's on a leash he can still pull me like a sled dog.

In that first pic he looks just like Nipper the "RCA" dog.

Frank, if you wounded a deer while hunting, would Kaiser trail the wounded deer so you could retrieve it?
