Ward's Auction 1930s catalog
I missed out on this mint condition 1930s Lynn Bogue Hunt catalog today. Sold for $154 at Ward's auction.

Re: Ward's Auction 1930 catalog
Savage used that catalog for 1931 to 1934. There are at least five different retail price lists that go with that catalog.
The first is undated but equates to the 1931 Wholesale Price list. It has the Skeeter on it.
The second is also undated and equates to the 1932 Wholesale Price List. It has the Trap Grade on it.
The third is dated June 21, 1932, and is the first to include the SP-/SPE-Grade.
The fourth is dated March 15, 1933.
The fifth is dated March 1, 1934.
Without a price list, I've recorded eleven sell on ebay for anywhere from $45.44 to $169.38. I've recorded five sell with the undated (1931) price list from $119 to $268.79. I've recorded four sell with the undated (1932) all right in the $165 to $170 range. With the June 21, 1932, Retail Price List, I got a real nice one for $113.61, a ratty one that had been wet went for $67.66, and most recently a real nice one went for $200. I've only recorded two sell with the March 15, 1933, Retail Price List, one for $281 and and the other for $213.50 and it included the Trap Gun Folder!! The two I've recorded with the March 1, 1934, Retail Price List, sold for $228.40 and $69?!?
I got blown out of the water on the two shot shell boxes I bid on. I thought Lot #1045 would look good with my J-Grade but not for over twice what I paid for the J-Grade about three decades ago!! Also thought it would be nice to have a box of 3-inch 16-gauge shells, Lot #1030.

Re: Ward's Auction 1930s catalog
So, Dave, what do you think about the item #1145 $1365 Lubaloy handicap loads? I was a little late when a similar box, maybe this one, sold on the net for about $45. I wonder what the Nash Buckingham Lubaloy loads, 1 3/8 ounce 3", will sell for if a box ever comes up?

Re: Ward's Auction 1930s catalog
I was just about to repeat Researcher's list of the price sheets that came with the Lynn Bogue Hunt catalog, so I'll cut my
message in half and get to my point.
The 2nd version is undated, and has the typical two column lists of guns and prices at the top of the page. The Fox
trap GRADE is listed near the top of the left column with a price of $125.00. If you have a really good, undamaged copy
of the $125 trap grade type, I would go to some extremes to get it away from you. Which ever type price list you have
is not going to change the value of your catalog. I specifically collect Fox factory printed literature, and this page is a blank in my collection.
I can offer you cash, other versions of the page, or quite a few complete catalogs in trade. Nose around in your miscellaneous
stuff, you could profit from this page.

Re: Ward's Auction 1930s catalog
I think it is a good indicator that the economy is robust when collectibles are bringing those kind of prices. I was getting some good stuff from Ward's Auctions in the 2009 to 2012 time frame, but lately things have been shooting past my comfort zone. So, Dave, what do you think about the item #1145 $1365 Lubaloy handicap loads?
Guess I'll just have to make due with my two single shells --

What would one of those shells be potentially worth if I ever were to run across one to have as a collectable?

Re: Ward's Auction 1930s catalog
From what I can see, from watching and bidding on full and partial shell boxes on Ward's over the years, the prices have really escalated in the last year or more. I'm no expert on old shells, and my central focus is heavy duck loads, but all just seem to have skyrocketed.
This is the closest thing I have to W/Ws original 1 3/8 oz. Lubaloy loads, but the vintage is not quite right. But hey! ......... they're Lubaloys!! Partial box of 22 plus 3 "black beauties". Also have a full box of 1 5/8 oz. loads, same vintage box.

Re: Ward's Auction 1930s catalog
A few years ago, as I recall, I paid $8 for the two Super-Trap shells (one Lubaloy and one chilled), a 12-gauge Western EXPERT Thicket Load, and a 12-gauge 1901 REPEATER with a WARE BROS. SPOKANE top wad.
Here is the early style two-piece 12-gauge Super-X 3-inch box --
Here is the early style two-piece box from the late 1920s when Lubaloy came out, but a 2 3/4 inch --
This one-piece box of the style used from 1933 to 39 is the earliest 3-inch Super-X Lubaloy box I've been able to snag --

Re: Ward's Auction 1930s catalog
I have two of the LBH catalogs. The first is complete with the envelope it was mailed in and includes the March 1st, 1934 price sheet.
The other one has the the second variation undated price sheet.

Re: Ward's Auction 1930s catalog
I was the successful bidder on this LBH catalog. It is in very nice condition although i wouldn't call it "mint". The 1931 price list was included.
As for the 1917 LC Smith catalog, congratulations and sorry if i bid it up on you.

Re: Ward's Auction 1930s catalog
Researcher, is the yellow blue and red box that Stan pictured be the box that would be inside the Henry Bartholomew case that is still sealed? It is dated 11-48, the month that Nash lost Bo Whoop.
