Sterlingworth made into Modern XE

Post by MKETOOL »

Here is the 20 gauge Sterlingworth made into a modern XE pattern. I had to do a lot of filing and sanding before I could even start the engraving. The leaf pattern was inspired by another upgraded gun I saw on this forum. I will be sending it out for case coloring soon. I will have to see how much of the engraving detail is lost after coloring. May need to french gray it, but that is up to the gun owner. The owner plans to upgrade the wood in the future. I will post some before and after pics. Enjoy, Tim

That turned out beautiful! Those Sterlingworth stamps looked rather deep and would require removing a lot of metal to get the frame down. Did you anneal prior to filing?

The birds are too realistic for an old XE, look very nice on the modern version.

Yes the metal was annealed in my kitchen oven. Just running it through the cleaning mode is enough to soften up the surface.
Thanks for the compliments, Tim Gall

Very nice!! BTW, the engraving of the grouse and quail look great!! SOOOOOOO much better than the "flying turnips" on most guns, and your fox on the bottom of the receiver looks very nice too. Much better than the head down or head up stoats that were found on the guns. You should be proud of your handiwork!

My vote is for case color. A little hunting will make the gun look astounding.

Much better than the old Fox gun's attempt at engraving "critters" You are very talented!
