16 gauge XE upgrade

Postby ROMAC » Sun Mar 12, 2017 3:40 pm

I purchased C.O.B.'s Sterlingworth upgrade a couple of weeks ago and I have been snake bitten ever since trying to get out to use it due to the weather, conflicts of schedules with hunting buddies etc...

I was hoping to post some pictures from the field but it does not look like that is going to happen anytime soon with seasons ending so here are a few to look at.

C.O.B. did not know who did the engraving, but I think he said he had it restocked after he got it. It is a very nice upgrade with dimensions that are spot on for me. It is an upland/grouse gun, with ejectors, original 26 inch barrels opened to IC/IC. You need to look real hard to find any usage marks. It rates a 99.5% as an as new upgrade.

I was lucky to be online when he posted. As they said in the song... Just one look...is all it took.

Very nice Roger. Thanks for posting. Rich (COB) had the gun at Hausmann's in 2015 and we looked at it in the parking lot. I remember, It looked to have been converted from extractor. Had been restocked but the buttstock didn't have the Foxy look. Rich told me later he'd sent it for restocking but I don't know who did the work. Good to see it again. frank

I was not aware of the extractor conversion. No matter.

I can tell you it kicks both snap caps evenly and with authority.

Nice Roger. You couldn't come close to replicating it for what he was asking for it. Very nice layout on the english walnut for a straight grip. Did the engraver sign it anywhere? Sometimes they sign it under the triggerguard. PS. Any pics of the side of the frame available?

Thought it might be Jack Jones who used to work for Ithaca Classic Doubles, but I think Jack would have signed it. He (Jack) works a lot with Gunter who was also involved with Ithaca Classic Doubles. Both are located in Va and Gunter has done a lot of straight stock conversions over the years.
