Michigan Duck Opener in the Southern Zone
Today was the Duck opener for our zone and as always, I made the1/2 mile trek through the cattail bog to my favorite pond. The weather was unseasonably warm and the ducks were slow, but it was a beautiful day on the marsh. I was lucky enough to get 3 ducks, (1 ring neck and 2 woodies) with my 12 ga. A grade.
After a lunch break, my brother got out his 2nd gen "B" straight gripper with 3" chambers and we headed back to the lake. We were hoping to post a nice picture of the two guns with a mess of ducks, but unfortunately the ducks didn't show up until 20 minutes after closing. We'll get 'em tomorrow.

Sounds like a great day Jeff. Nice Foxes and better out hunting than sitting in a safe. You can't get 'em if your not out there ......

Way to go, Jeff! Some good eating. Wild duck is my favorite food. Very nice guns. Good luck in your next hunt.

Nice pics Steggy. Your bros. B looks sweet next to your A. Will she be chasing ducks in SD?

Nice Jeff. We hunted northern NY for three days all teal and woodies plus woodcock and a pheasant. Little Nellie did a fantastic job and made 20 retrieves in difficult low water conditions. Lots of woodcock in NY this year, my son got 14 flushes today. Forgot to take pictures.
Our western NY season opens Saturday but no water in our marsh.

Craig, nice to hear that Nellie is retrieving the ducks. She looks like a real gem. The duck hunting is definitely a little slow here, but I did manage to get a mallard and a woodie this morning with my 10 ga. hammer gun. I know, I know! I need to work on my photo skills.

What a bummer Craig. What will you guys do with no water in the marsh on opening day?fox-admin wrote:Nice Jeff. We hunted northern NY for three days all teal and woodies plus woodcock and a pheasant. Stan, it's a Charles Daly, made by H. A. Lindner in Prussia, circa 1885.Stan Hoover wrote:Thanks for the nice pics and the letting us in on your hunt there Jeff,
